Hello:
For what it may be worth, I use a Palm TX running OS v5.4.9 and sync with J-Pilot 1.8.2 on Devuan Linux Beowulf with a backported kernel.
Before the TX, I was using a Palm IIIxe which has been carefully stashed away and in case it has any problem I cannot fix with parts from my stash, I always have a mint Palm IIIe as a back-up. Just can’t beat using 2xAAAs.
But I digress …
The thing is that J-Pilot was the deal breaker I needed to leave the MS Windows ecosystem for good, never looked back.
It works perfectly well and cannot say I have had any serious issues. Whatever problems I have had have been related to my own incompetence.
With respect to the subject at hand: 01/01/1904 to 31/12/2031 seems quite allright, by that time I will have turned 76 and replacement batteries for Palms will most probably be a thing long gone, save maybe rechargeable AAAs for my older ones.
I don’t carry my Palm around with me anymore, only if I leave town without my Linux netbook with its J-Pilot on board.
That alone speaks highly of Judd’s baby.
Best,
JHM
????? never even heard of it???

jpilot will load and work on my desktop but have never been able to get it
to link with my TX.

heck I still carry my TX with me daily and use it.
used to be able to get it to link with older versions of linux but have
not been able to since probably 18 or 20 kubuntu. have used several
different linux flavors over the years but really like the Kubuntu desktop
and the download library.

Jpilot works fine with Slackware64-14.2; haven't yet installed it on a
Slackware64-15.0 host.

Yes, that’s the first thing I tried. The biggest problem with it though is no USB support. (At least not without a lot of shenanigans)

I'm not sure who you are replying to. I'm assuming you are replying about
WSL on Windows.
Here's a pretty easy to follow guide to giving WSL's Linux access to a USB
device. Some of this is work that needs to be done each time you plug
in your Pilot.

Disclosure: I haven't tried this.

The reply option isn’t working correctly for me. Yes, I was referring to WSL. I know it’s possible, but I need a solution for the average Joe. It needs to be easy to install and needs both usb and printer functionality.
Who are these average Joe's that eschew modern smartphones, and instead
use 25-year-old technology? Sounds like the tail of the distribution to
me....

Yes, I have a habit of being overly helpful. Really, way too much time into it. But with that said, it’s fulfilling doing something people appreciate and something no one else on the planet would probably consider.
