The hosting company for this email list has decided to increase the
price from 10.50/quarter to $24/quarter. This is about twice the price
I am seeing at other inexpensive hosting places.
Does anyone have recommendations on where to host an email list? There
are 107 members right now and there have been 41 messages this year in
the last 9 months. What do we think about getting rid of the list? I
would be a little sad because it has been around so long and I have met
some friends here. ON the other hand, I also don't want to spend time
doing something if it is of little or no value.
I'm not a big fan Google groups, but it is free.

I would be happy, if a list would further exist.
Since years I have very good experience with https://riseup.net/en/lists
It's driven by donotion.

Judd,
With Thunderbird, which has a big footprint, you can create mailing lists easily, which I do. It's not much work to import contacts from other clients, like Outlook or gmail, and fairly easy to maintain. And, best of all, it's free - except for a little overhead of your time.

Judd,
Ouch!

I've no recommendations, but hub spot does:
https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/free-email-accounts
My web search for `no cost mail list hosts' has many such lists.
I'm not a big fan Google groups, but it is free.
I, too, don't like Google, groups and other parts.
While I'm still having no issues with jpilot, I greatly appreciate having it
available. And, sometimes I can actually offer a solution. :-)
Best regards,
Rich

Anyone can create a list! The only requirement is that the list must be used for radical social change. If your list is not of a progressive, radical, or revolutionary nature, we will not enable it. Lists which are primarily for hobbies, general education, sports, or spiritual practice will not be approved. Again, the list must be political.

Oh sorry, they have not been so restrictive in the past.

Try Thunderbird, which is not a mailing service but works well. I have about 40 contacts in one of my groups and it does the job.

I use Thunderbird. Would this be just creating a group and an Auto forward rule?

If you open Address Book, there are some buttons at the top. One is "New List" and "Import" is next to it. You could import contacts via a .csv file or vCard/vcf file and other options. I don't use Auto forward but maybe other in the group do. But I used message filters a lot (to auto delete SPAM) and this would be tidy way to auto forward mail.

This concept only works for one-way broadcast, but not for groups, where each member should be able to post to the whole group.
