Tungsten E2 restore screw-up

Hello:

Turned on my Tungsten E2 yesterday morning only to find it did not respond.

Had to plug it in the charger and when it came on it was empty.

So I opened up JPilot and did a restore handheld.

Things apparently did not go too well and I find I have lost some data.

I should have backed up before restoring, which I did not do.  8^|

I have BackInTime installed in my box so I have the whole set of folders backed up.

Which is the safest way to go about solving this problem?

TIA

S.

Which Palm device had the best camera?  - Treo?

I've decided to go without a cell phone - really don't need or want cell or data anymore - just not good for me mentally.

What I need is the memo functionality.

I kept thinking that a workable Linux phone would appear - no longer think that is going to happen.

So strange that a new locally sync-able device is not available.

Could be I will carry an old treo and a Sony point and shoot..

Karl,

I'd recommend this: two devices, each the best for particular tasks.

I have a few Palm TXs which I use for the 4 databases (one in use the others
as spares as I've become dependent on the Palm when away from the office.)
When I might need (or want) photographs I take my Canon EOS DSLR.

Use what you have.

Stay well,

Rich

I don't think any of the Palms had very good cameras.  I can search for
a Treo pic for an example if you'd like.  They are barely better than
not having a pic, IMO.  They are good for taking pictures of UFOs
though.  You can take a picture of a boat and try to convince your
friends that you had a UFO sighting.  "See, those clouds quickly went
into a wave formation.  It just hovered right there, then my hair raised
up and it took off."

Why not use a phone with no SIM card and don't use the WiFi when tempted?

Good suggestion. After all, today's 'smart'phones are sold by the quality of
their cameras not voice.

Yes - this is a good option to consider.. ...

I could open it up and disable the wifi..

,.,
Really want the local sync function ,.,

Seems like the world started to go backwards when Palm devices died..

My phone doesn't belong to me -- it belongs to the network and big-tech..

Karl,

When Verizon (then sold to Frontier Communications and now to ZiplyFiber)
announced they were droping CDMA I knew the Treos were no longer viable. I
bought a Nokia 6.1 AndroidOne (uses an un-enhanced Google Android OS with
automatic updates) and replaced a friend's iPhone with a Nokia 5.1
AndroidOne. Both are GMS and have worked worked perfectly. The Wi-Fi can be
turned on and off in the settings. They're inexpensive and you can get AT&T
service via RedPocket on eBay; this year's fee is about $17/month.

I keep mine in a Faraday bag when I'm out since I don't have a lot of people
calling me on that phone and I don't like to be tracked. The phone's for my
use and I like my privacy ... what little's left of it.

HTH,

Rich

@Rich
I have been using an android - Moto-one -- I bought this phone - but it isn't 'mine' - it belongs to big-tech. It will
use up the battery even when supposedly off. Does things without my permission..

There are phones that have 'open' android on them - but there is also firmware that is not open.

I no longer have a reason to be instantly available - realized that the ability to look up things instantly - while it
has advantages - also changes the way I think - I don't think it is good for us.  The results one gets - gives one a
sense that we know things - but the rank order changes our judgement - induces bias.  Sometimes it is better to think
about the question longer - and only look it up if it is important enough to remember when I get back to my desk.

I made up my mind - I'm going back to Palm devices - and ordered a Sony pocket camera.

I will use my old Treo for now - I can buy the old devices for almost nothing via ebay - will stock up on them --
biggest concern is a supply of batteries.

Karl,

I've been buying all my batteries (truck, car, power tools, etc.) from
Northwest Battery Supply, 3750 SE Belmont, Portland, OR 97214, 503-232-9002.
They may have, or be able to get, Treo batteries. Send an email message to
Darren Baisden, darren.baisden@batteryexchange.com.

Germane to being tracked and being a revenue source to some company: since
the Web became a large part of the Internet we've lost a lot of our privacy,
just as we've lost a lot of our freedoms since the passage of the Patriot
Act. We can't change back to the privacy and rights we had, but we can use
new technologies, including pocket computers that also allow us to speak to
others far away, for our benefit.

Depending on where you live and travel a mobile phone (cellular or
satellite) can be essential. Have an accident or encounter one on a county
road where even the state patrol rarely passes? Call for help with the
mobile phone. But, each state has various radio-free zones, including
portions of Hwy 26 crossing Mt Hood in Oregon, the Oregon Coast Range (in
the valleys), I-80 in northern Nevada, and back roads in every western
state. Probably some in places east of the Rocky Mountains, too. :-)

Stay well,

Rich

the area around Greenbrier WV is a total wireless free zone because of the
huge radio telescopes in the area.

PS where did you find a "Faraday bag" all I can find are ridged cages

and I hit a deer on a out of the way location at night. totalled the car
and deer, modern safety features I was totally unhurt, but turned on old
cell phone and called 911 and AAA to get rescued.  but phone was off and
old style, it has since been desupported, finally bought a Nokia 5.1 and
turned off anything that could be turned off.  they make it hard to turn
the phone itself off, but it can be done.
keeps wanting to install stuff and I keep saying later (it won't let you
say no)

I will use my Palm TX as long as I can keep it working, But I still can't
get it to link to jpilot on linux kubuntu 18.04 and later.  linked on
earlier versions but not since 18.04
