I previously installed Jpilot successfully in April on my development
desktop after upgrading to 20.04. However, I decided to take the plunge and
upgrade to 20.04 from 18.04 on my primary desktop. Now I get "unsupported
file" when running the commands on this page
http://lists.jpilot.org/pipermail/jpilot_lists.jpilot.org/2020-April/030156.html,
such as:
sudo apt install -f ./python-pisock-dbg_0.12.5-dfsg-2build2_amd64.deb
Could the problem be, perhaps, that the latter files are compatible
with Ubuntu 20.20 and not 20.04, or am I way off the mark?

Excuse my ignorance. I just realized there is no Ubuntu 20.20. So why are
those files unsupported???

Actually, back in April I was able to install Jpilot directly from
Synaptic. Now none of the components show up on Synaptic. Do I need to add
a repository?

Recently a friend of mine who is a computer science professor at one of the
State Universities in California did this for me as a favor: he built
Jpilot for Ubuntu 20.04, installed on my Xubuntu laptop and then sent me
the files. I am attaching these files for you in case you can make it work

That was my fault. I was very tired when I wrote that email and
uploaded them. I mistyped 20.20 and it should have been 20.04. I
didn't change the web url because it would break the link in the email
archives.

I don't have python-pisock-dbg installed, but have the others. Try
skipping it. Also, I am not sure if you need the -f flag or not.
The dates on the files I uploaded are Jan 19, 2020, 3 months before
Ubuntu 20.04 came out, so its possible I need to recompile them again?
I compiled them on Ubuntu 20.04 beta.

They are for 20.04.
Also, David Malia has been porting jpilot to GTK 3 so it will soon be
much easier to build (although maybe more buggy for a while).

Judd,
I downloaded all those files from your Github repository and ran the
commands and build Jpilot successfully. I had to rerun the plugins command
to get the plugins menu.
Thanks for your expert help.

Paul,
Thanks. I solved the problem by downloading Judd's files from Github, then
running the deb commands locally. It works fine. Earlier this year I was
able to install it from Syntaptic but couldn't do it this time.
