I've been using jpilot for more than two decades and have accumulated many
old datebook/calendar and to-do items that are no longer needed. What is the
most efficient way to delete all these dust bunnies from both jpilot and the
handheld?

TIA,

Rich

My guess (not sure) is would be to back up the respective *.db file/s (in case you need it a
year from now), delete it and restart jpilot.

IIRC, a new empty one will get generated.

JHM

JHM,

Unfortunately this will remove all future events in the calendar db, too.
Like cutting off a leg for an ingrown toenail.

I want to remove all past calendar events prior to a certain date. Now,
CalendarDB-PDat.pdb is 194793 bytes large. I can't edit it in emacs or
export only the calendar db.

Thanks for your suggestion,

Rich

Didn't realise that you wanted to purge just the old ones.

But if you delete the old ones, the repeatables one may (?) also get deleted.
ie: birthday reminders

I see.

CalendarDB-PDat.pdb is 194793 bytes large.

Yep, large.  8^/

I can't edit it in emacs or export only the calendar db.

Hmm ....

I recall there were a couple of applications for editing Palm .db:
Never used any of them though.

http://pdbeditor.sourceforge.net/
http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/

Maybe they can make the job easier?

JHM

JHM,

What would work is if I could have jpilot display all past calendar entries,
not only the current or future ones. I see no way to explose those and I
don't need to contiue storing 25+ years of past appointments.

I'll look at those tools.

Thanks,

Rich

Dead links.

Worth checking, though.

I don't have a Palm in front of me now, but wasn't there a "Purge"
option in the datebook drop down menu?

See this:

www.dummies.com/consumer-electronics/smartphones/blackberry/archiving-your-palm-data/

Your Palm device can hold only a fraction of the information your desktop computer can. To
save space on the Palm device, clearing things out regularly is a good idea. The Palm device
has a Purge function in the Date Book and To Do List that automatically gets rid of unneeded
items and moves them to an archive file, if you want.

Viewing archived items

The Palm Desktop is the only place where you can open and view archived items. Even if
you use another personal information manager, such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus
Organizer, to put items into your Palm device, you still need to look in the Palm Desktop to
view your archived items.

JHM

Yes, but you will not see it if you are not looking at the daily view.
ie: the one that show's you a day's events hour by hour.

It is the only drop down menu that has the 'Purge' option.

It took me a good while to find it.
Go figure ...

Best,

JHM

Judd,

Short answer: yes. I never looked at the menu on a datebook/calendar on any
Palm I owned from the first Personal through multiple versions to the
current TX. Looking at the TX calendar I saw icons along the bottom of the
screen and found the menu one. Using Purge the default is earlier than one
week from today which worked for me.

All these years and there're still things for me to learn.

Thank you very much and stay well,

Rich
