Thank you first of all for volunteering to help me. I am most grateful
for any further advice you can give me.

I'm not sure any more. There was a .jpilot folder in my home folder,
but the current JPilot installation migth have made that. I therefore
moved it to Trash and copied over my stored copy of my old .jpilot
folder, ran JPilot, (which found and used the new data without
trouble), then tried tp sync my Treo. The result was the same.

I don't know how to check that.

I think it would be easier to just send you the output from my
terminal than to try to figure out for myself what and where to look
for something that might not be there. Here's the output,
step-by-step.

(I run jpilot from the terminal in debug mode)

(I run JPilot and re-run dmesg, no new messages
(I click in the JPilot window, send <ctrl>+y and re-run dmesg, again,
no new messages
(I press the USB cable button and re-run dmesg, again, no new messages
regarding sync
(However, it does seem to keep disconnecting and re-connecting. The
plug at the Treo end is a little loose, even though AFAIK it's a
fairly new cable that I bought last October. But I emphasize again,
until I upgraded Mint, the cable worked!)

Again, I thank you for any help that you might be able to give me.

PS. Paul Donlan suggested that I try running JPilot from terminal in
superuser mode. I ran sudo jpilot, tried to sync and it worked. Here's
the output.

XXXXX ~ $ sudo jpilot
[sudo] password for allan:
sync.c:1721 Error reading file: /home/allan/.jpilot/Keys-Gtkr.pdb
fast_sync_application: Unable to open file: Keys-Gtkr
Can't open dbm file /home/allan/.jpilot/Backup/active.dbm
Reason: File read error

dmesg just shows the converter unconnecting and re-connecting. I
consider this a work-around however, rather than a solution.
