Hi.  I'm not one of the most knowledgeable people here, but I think I'm 
one of the few still using a Palm Vx, so maybe I can help a bit.  I am 
a little surprissed since I've had far less trouble with the serial 
palm than with the newer usb palms.  I'm also using pilot-link 0.11.8, but 
using jpilot 0.99.7.

What kernel are you using?  And are you using udev?

What happens if you try

pilot-xfer -l

on the command line?  That should give a better idea if it is a connection 
issue or a jpilot thing.
